Welcome to Manila, Utah
Home of the Flaming Gorge
Manila Utah, a short three hour drive from the hustle and bustle of Salt Lake City, Manila exists as a small, quiet community offering a completely unique experience. The valley opens wide at your feet and the pollution free evening skies are filled with stars that seem almost within reach. In winter, the valley is surrounded by snow laden mountains, providing breath taking views. A multitude of wild animals including deer, antelope, rabbit, fox, bobcat, and the occasional mountain lion, share Manila with the local population. Whatever you desire in outdoor adventure, you are bound to find it here within the cedar, juniper, aspen and/or pine covered mountains rising to the south, and scenic desert formations fading into the northern horizon. Tucked comfortably against the hillsides, Manila rests on a valley which quietly overlooks the immense beauty of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
We welcome you to our town and invite you to stay as long as you would like, hoping your visit to Manila Utah will be filled with lasting memories.

April 2017 Newsletter
We would like to welcome Alan Staggs as our newly appointed Town Council Member!
Spring is finally catching up to us in Manila! I anticipate many of us enjoying the nicer weather and getting outside to do yard work. Starting April 1-Oct 28, the landfill will be operating on summer hours: Mondays from 9:00 A.M. to Noon, and Saturdays from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. The landfill fee is car/truck load is $7.00, a trailer is $12.00 and both is $19.00.
According to Manila Town Ordinance, the weekly residential curbside pick-up allows, for up to, five (5) 32 gallon trash bags of individual household waste (not to exceed 45 lbs per bag). Each household above the allotted 5 bags will be charged an additional $2.00 per bag. We require bags to be placed in a container, with a lid. This helps prevent animals from tearing into garbage bags and to prevent littering. Where possible, please secure the lid to the container so the wind doesn’t carry it away.
Town of Manila employees only pick up household waste. Please manage your own yard waste by bringing it to the landfill and following the direction of the employee on site to place it in its proper place. If this is a hardship, we encourage individuals to work together with friends and family to bring your yard waste to the landfill. Also, there are various lawn care providers in town that will haul yard waste to the landfill for a small fee.
The Department of Environmental Quality has required the Town of Manila to update our Landfill Closure Plan. Unfortunately, our landfill does not have unlimited space and it is inevitable that we will run out of space in the future, therefore it is important to manage our landfill wisely. Our area could not afford to lose this important area for waste disposal. Because of extremely strict environmental controls it is nearly impossible to open another landfill. Once it is closed we must look at transferring our waste out of the county--hence the strict adherence to placing waste in the appropriate cell sites.
If you are bringing your own waste to the landfill, please separate your load in advance. We have separate cells for the following categories: Burnable wood; Yard waste and leaves; Metal; and Household (includes cardboard and plastics). Please follow the operator at the landfill for further instructions. We do not accept refrigerators/freezers without the certification stating that the Freon has been removed properly.
We have been reminded by the State that all loads need to be covered and secured to prevent garbage from being spread along the highway. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
