September 2010 Town Newsletter

Labor Day Holiday: The Manila office and landfill will be closed for the holiday on Monday September 6th.  Be sure to make the time to enjoy the festivities for the weekend.  There will be a parade, fireworks, parade of lights, and a pancake breakfast in the area.  Be in Manila for loads of family fun.  The Manila Council and Staff wish you a safe holiday.

Water: The system has worked very well during this summer.  A SCADA system monitors the wells and storage tanks, and the radio read meters are functional.  Upgrades have been made which will ensure delivery interruptions will be minimal.  Projects that will begin this year and already funded will take the Manila Water System into the future.

Capital Improvements: The Manila Council will be reviewing and updating the 2011 and beyond Capital Improvement list in September.  This will determine future projects, anticipated methods for funding, and the logical direction for the community in keeping with the General and Master Plans in place.  The focus is on the next twenty years.

Manila Fire: The department continues to train with twice monthly in house meetings and training available from the Utah and Wyoming academies.  Plans are being formulated for building a new fire station.  This will focus on an emergency complex in a central location with all of our fire equipment available for quick response.  The result will be a more ready department.  The plan includes providing space for Daggett County to build on for inclusion of their ambulance, EMT unit, and  Search and Rescue.

Pasta Bash: The Manila Seniors, in coordination with the planners of the Tower 10 K run, hosted an all you an eat Pasta Bash.  The event was well attended and the food was delicious.  The seniors are to be congratulated on their community spirit and work ethic.

See you in Manila,

Chuck Dickison
Town Mayor
