November 2010 Town Newsletter

November Holidays: The Manila office will be closed on November 11th for Veteran’s Day Holiday and Thursday November 25th and Friday 26th for the Thanksgiving Holiday.  The Council and Staff wish you safe and enjoyable holidays.

Capital Improvements List: Manila and Daggett County have completed the process with the Association of Governments in finalizing the Community Impact Board pending project list.  The remaining project on the one year list is the fire station for Manila.  The three million gallon water tank and infrastructure has been removed since it was funded with 2.8 million dollars by USDA.

Water tank and Infrastructure project: Fifteen contractors submitted bids for this project.  The funding package was approximately 2.8 million and the lowest three bidders provided estimates for construction significantly below the engineer’s estimate.  Subsequently, the funding will provide the ability to complete the project well within the parameters and possibly provide for project enhancements.  Contractor award will be made after qualification examination.

Christmas Tree Lighting: Mark your calendars for Saturday December 4th at 6:00 P.M.  We anticipate an appearance by Santa, the annual Manila Christmas tree lighting and hot chocolate and cookies for the kids and the young at heart who attend this evening of community fellowship.

Heating assistance: November is the month to apply for those persons eligible for heating assistance.  This process is facilitated through the Food Pantry program.

Community weed abatement: Letters to homeowners have been sent to those property owners who have been remiss in keeping their lots from becoming fire hazards or in violation of Manila land use ordinances.  There has been welcomed compliance from some and others will be encouraged to participate.  Overgrown lots not only detract from appearance and contribute to neighborhood devaluation but are a source of fire hazard.  Ordinance provides for property owners causing emergency response due to act or omission being charged for the response.

See you in Manila,
