January 2010 Town Newsletter

Christmas Tree Lighting: The annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony was a success and well attended.  Santa arrived on top of a fire truck and all the children shared their Christmas wishes with him.  Everyone had their fill of homemade cookies and hot chocolate.  The event welcomed the holiday season in our little community.

Snow in UDOT roadways: UDOT representatives has asked for the following information to be included in this newsletter.  It is unlawful to push snow from private property onto a UDOT highway.  Violators may be fined and will be responsible for damage caused by the pushed snow.

January Holidays: Friday January 1st is New Years Day and the office will be closed.  The Manila Landfill and office will be closed on January Monday 18th for National observance of Martin Luther King Day.  The landfill will open on Tuesday, curbside trash will be picked up, and the Manila Office will reopen for business.  The Mayor, Council, and Staff wish you a Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Curbside trash limits: A household may only place five (5) bags at the roadway for pickup.  All additional bags will be subject to a supplemental fee for each.  Manila waste collection does not take leaves or yard waste.  The landfill is open to all Daggett County citizens for deposit of leaves, yard waste and tree trimmings.  Only household waste will be collected.

CHRISTMAS TREES: Manila Waste pickup will collect your discarded Christmas tree within the limits of Manila on Monday January 11th.  Large trees need to be cut into two sections for ease in handling.

Project Updates: The 1.3 million gallon tank and infrastructure upgrade project application is in Washington D.C. pending final review for the Stimulus funding for several million dollars.  The complete system meter replacement to radio read units will begin before spring and is fully grant funded.  A project change in scope of work for $260,000 is on the CIB agenda in January 2010 which is intended to fund replacement of about two miles of main water line between the new well and western valley.

See you in Manila,

Chuck Dickison
