August 2010 Town Newsletter

Senior Citizens events: The center will host a 55 and alive drivers class on August 17th.  Call Andrea at 784-3143 or 784-3158 to register.  On August 13th the center will have a PASTA BASH.  Everyone is invited to this event.

Radio Read Meters: The new computer activated meter system will be up and running this month.  Your August bill will reflect the new reading system and users can expect an overage amount to be shown.  This system will provide accuracy and consistency in billing and meters can be read all the months of the year.  A $556,000 grant from the State of Utah provided the system wide upgrade. DO NOT OPEN METERS!!  They are high tech and will be damaged.  Ordinance prohibits users from entering the meter boxes and damage caused will be charged to the violators.  Call Manila to have them turned on.

Fire danger: The Manila Fire department reminds residents that the potential for fire is significant.  Burning outside a fire pit is prohibited and trash burning is a State violation.  Let’s have a safe and enjoyable summer.

Water and sewer projects: The mainline replacement along the Sols Canyon Road is complete with about two miles being new at a cost of $260,000 funded by CIB.  The $2,800,000 water tank and infrastructure project is being designed by engineers and should go out to bid later this summer.  The Federal Stimulus program funded this project with the majority being grant and the rest low interest 40 year loan.

Labor Day weekend: Mark your calendars to be in Manila for the annual Labor Day festivities.  A check of the Manila or Daggett County websites will outline all of the activities for that particular weekend.  There will be lots of family fun for everyone.

See you in Manila,
