Happy October

The Autumn weather came quickly upon us this year. We’ve had a lot of rain, some snow and the leaves are starting to change! Don’t forget Halloween is coming up--please be alert and aware of our little “Trick or Treaters” on Tuesday, October 31st.

Sewer Improvement Project: The Mayor went before the Community Impact Board (CIB) on September 7, 2017, to ask for funding regarding numerous problems the Town has been experiencing with the oldest part of the wastewater system with 30-40 years of deterioration. The project area consists of concrete jointed pipes where plant root intrusion has become a major problem. In addition, most of the water currently conveyed through this area is by ground water infiltration; as a result, the capacity of our sewer lagoons is being greatly affected. This project area serves the older part of town where many full-time residents live.

This project is too large for Manila to manage without adequate funding. I am pleased to report that the Community Impact Board offered the Town of Manila a favorable funding package. The total cost of this project will be $1,256,000.00. CIB gave the Town of Manila a 50/50 Grant/Loan split for 30 years with a 2.5% interest rate. Without the help from CIB we would not be able to afford this necessary project. We will start the wastewater improvement project in the spring of 2018. Notice of Cancellation of Election: On Oct. 12, 2017 the Manila Town Council will adopt Resolution 10-12-17 cancelling the 2017 Town of Manila election. This is due to each municipal officer candidate being unopposed.

Advance Notification: The Town Office will be closed Thursday Oct. 26 and Friday Oct. 27 for Clerk’s training. Payments can still be made online, mail, or dropped in the outside slot. If building permits are needed they are available on the town website: manilautah.com.

Landfill Winter Hours Coming Soon: Currently the landfill is open each Monday from 9:00 A.M. to Noon, and Saturdays from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. During the winter (November 1st to April 1st) the landfill is open every Monday from 9:00 A.M. to Noon and on the first Saturday of each “winter” month from 9:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M.

Stop in at the Manila Town Office throughout the month of October and pick up a Halloween Treat.
