January 2017 Newsletter

Christmas Tree Pick-Up: Town Residents, if you would like your Christmas Tree picked up and taken to the landfill please have the tree on your easement no later than January 9th. If your tree is over 5 feet tall, please cut in half so that pickup is easier. The Christmas Elves Program, sponsored by Rick/Mandy Slaugh and Syndee Johnson was a great success! It helped make Christmas better for some of our school aged children in our community. The Winter Food Drive, sponsored by the Town of Manila and the local Boy/Cub Scouts, has been successful as well. We appreciate all those who have donated money, food and other items to help local families in need. Advance Notification: The Town Office will be closed March 20-24. The staff will be attending the Utah Municipal Clerks Institute all week. Payments can still be made online, mail, or dropped in the outside slot. If building permits are needed they are available on the town website:

Mayor/Town Council Update: We have been busy working on a number of various issues. Some of our top priorities have been revitalizing our Fire Department, updating the computer and software program (SCADA) for the water system, analyzing our budget, focusing on public works safety and looking for long-term fixes for our roads. Our Town Council is a “working council” meaning that each member has specific assignments they are working on each month. We find this is an effective way to address specific areas.

Also, to respond better to community needs, the Town Council has instituted two work meetings each month in addition to the regularly scheduled Town Council meeting (second Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm). One is held mid-month and the other is right before the regular town council meetings. Please note the posting of these meetings if you would like to attend.

In general, a public meeting is one in which the public is invited to come and watch the Town Council deliberate and decide matters. Individual members of the public do not actively participate in public meetings unless it is a public hearing—and even then, certain rules apply. Individuals who wish to address the Town Council in any public meeting are asked to complete a “Public Comment Request” which will be available in advance in the town office or at the door. This form needs to be turned in—at least 15 minutes in advance of the meeting--for review by the Mayor.

May you have a Healthy, Prosperous and Wonderful New Year!
