July 2016 Newsletter
Greetings from the Town of Manila!
We have had a number of changes in the Town of Manila in the past 3 months. We have a new Mayor, Gretchen Northcott; a new Town Clerk, Marlena Connor; A new Deputy Clerk, Jessica Wardle; and a new Fire Chief, Randy Browning. We would like to welcome these individuals and thank Dennis Long, Lynette Asay and Drew Housley for their years of service to this community.
Currently the Town of Manila has a vacancy on the Town Council. Among other things, you must be a US citizen and current resident of Manila (for at least 12 months). Letters of interest must be submitted by July 15, 2016 at 2:00 pm. at the Manila Town Office. If you are interested in this position please contact the town office at 435-784-3143 for more information.
The Fire Department is looking for 6-8 able-bodied individuals, from the Town or County, to serve as volunteers. Monthly meetings are every 2nd and 4th Tuesdays at the firehouse. Contact the Town Office at 435-784-3143 or email for additional information.
Fireworks: As you celebrate the upcoming July 24th holiday please remember that Manila is not immune to fire hazards. Conditions exist, no matter the cause, for fire to spread quickly throughout our town. Always have water handy (a hose or buckets of water) to douse fireworks. We would like to remind you that certain fireworks are illegal in the State in Utah: Firecrackers, M-80s, Cherry bombs, Bottle-rockets, Roman candles, Single or reloadable mortars, Ground salutes and any other explosive obtained outside of Utah borders. Please keep you and your family safe by following common-sense safety rules.
Reminder: According to Manila Town Ordinance, the weekly residential curbside pick-up allows for 5 trash bags of individual household waste. Each household above the allotted 5 bags will be charged an additional $2.00 per bag. Yard waste has to be hauled by homeowners to be put in a separate landfill cell. Yard waste will no longer be picked up by town employees. Landfill hours: Monday 9-12 and Saturdays 9-2.
Just a friendly reminder to conserve water during the summer months. Outside watering is from 6pm-10am.
The Town of Manila is looking for interested citizens to sit on the Planning and Zoning Commission. Contact the Town Office at 435-784-3143 for more information.
Enjoy your summer here in Manila!
